Our Story

Welcome to Primo & Secondo Restaurant

Established in 2001, Primo & Secondo has become a beacon for dining in Petite Italie, Montreal. Chef Roberto has been creating dishes for the past twenty years and comes with thirty years of international experience as a chef. Recently awarded the  2022 Emilo Romanga culinary arts award for excellence, his accolades span his career with a focus on classic Italian cuisine.


After two years of opening and closing down due to the pandemic the restaurant is back in full swing and diners couldn't be happier. With the famous Jean Talon Market just steps away, the Chef makes sure to work with local farmers and artisans looking for the freshest ingredients everyday to ensure his diners are experiencing the best he has to offer. He challenges his dishes and puts his own flare to classics. A classic Negroni to start, and a hearty glass of wine to compliment the food experience. From market fresh seafood to Veal Parmagiana, which is made with a huge breaded veal chop rather than thin cutlets, creating mouth watering bites with tangy tomato sauce and Mozzarella di Bufala. His signature homemade pastas and sauces change with the season and market availabilities. Stuffed Zucchini Flowers, Mortadella Ravioli, and if one is lucky you may catch Chef creating pizza. His signature grilled veal chop stands the test of time as customers are always requesting this dish along with Porcini Risotto with Truffles (when in season). For those who like the sweets, classic Tiramisu, Chocolate Lava Cake and the ultimate Budino dessert.


The vibe at Primo & Secondo is one of relaxed fine dining with sports figures, business moguls, artists and politicians all frequenting  the dining room from time to time. The wonderfully kind Guy Lafleur was one of the chef's favourite guests who he recently honoured with a special dish created to commemorate the great Montreal Canadian. Ask Chef about Tony Bennet who was happy to eat at the restaurant and Chef Roberto is always available to visit a table and chat about his dishes and experiences. The concept is simple, serve good food in an atmosphere where people can enjoy and live La Dolce Vita.
